For over twenty years, Maria has been deeply involved in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) activities, dedicated to the education and mentorship of youth. Her tireless efforts have seen her mentor countless students and professionals, guiding them through the complexities of STEM careers.


Maria has spoken at schools and career fairs, provided lab tours, and facilitated job shadowing opportunities, allowing students to experience a day in the life of an engineer. Her commitment to STEM education was recognized at the highest levels when she was invited to the White House under President Obama to discuss STEM careers with underrepresented students.


Maria's influence extends beyond her professional achievements. As a co-author of six books, including her first collaboration, "Unleash Your Superpower: 6 Extraordinary Stories on Discovering and Accepting the Power Within," Maria shares her journey and insights on identifying and using one's inner strengths. Her subsequent books delve into leadership and empowerment, offering readers valuable lessons from her own experiences.


One of Maria's notable initiatives is the mentoring program, Gal’s Lead. This program focuses on teaching young women the four pillars of success: Know Yourself, Dream Big, Overcome Obstacles, and Take Action. Through Gal’s Lead, Maria assists young ladies in developing confidence, connections, and career clarity, equipping them to live their most awesome lives.


In addition to her mentoring efforts, Maria co-owns the Waldorf Chess Club with her husband. The club nurtures young minds by teaching them critical thinking and problem-solving skills through the game of chess. Open to all ages, the club provides lessons, casual play, and tournament opportunities, fostering an environment where participants can develop confidence, strategic planning abilities, and goal-setting skills.



Maria’s dedication to fostering growth and innovation is reflected in her impressive educational background. She holds a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University, a Master of Engineering in Engineering Science from Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University. Additionally, she is a graduate of prestigious programs such as the Naval Postgraduate School Senior Leader Seminar, Leadership Southern MD, and the Federal Executive Institute.


Throughout her career, Maria has received numerous awards and honors, including the 2023 Woman of Color Community Service Award, the Department of the Navy HBCU/MI Program Administrating Office of the Year in 2022, Maryland Mother of the Year in 2021, and the Black Engineer of the Year Award for Community Service. Her accolades also include the Women of Color Technology & Defense Award for Outstanding Achievements in Government and the Equal Employment Opportunity Honorary Award for Excellence in Leadership.


Beyond her professional and community achievements, Maria finds fulfillment in her personal life. A native of Philadelphia, PA, she resides in Waldorf, MD, with her husband Roland Jr. and their two sons, Roland III and Malcolm. Maria enjoys the tranquility of the beach, the nuances of wine tasting, and traveling the world, balancing her dynamic career with enriching personal experiences.
