While attending the university, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., an illustrious sisterhood that fosters academic excellence, leadership, and public service. As a founding member of the Union County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., she has contributed her time and talents to various leadership roles within the organization.
In addition to her corporate achievements, Dr. Tangela has been honored with two honorary doctorates. She earned a Doctorate in Christian Leadership from The School of Great Commission Bible College and Seminary in Columbia, SC, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Humanitarianism from Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University in Houston, TX. These honors reflect her dedicated work in ministry and her service to others.

Dr. Tangela’s commitment to community service is evident in her leadership roles with nonprofit organizations. She served as the first African American and woman to Chair the Board of Directors for the Council on Aging in Union County. This nonprofit organization advocates for the well-being of older adults by providing essential services and resources that support independent living. During her four-year term, she also held roles as Vice Chairperson and Chair of the Recruitment and Development Committee. She currently serves as the Audit Committee Chairperson.
Her philanthropic efforts also extend into the literary world. In 2021, Dr. Tangela made her debut as an international best-selling author, contributing a powerful chapter to the anthology The Image in the Mirror: The Reflection That Inspired The Courage to Live Limitlessly.
